The image's lighting is mainly low key lighting which emphasizes the fact that it is night time and draws attention to the woman's candle light. It also creates mystery and tension in the scene. Although the scene is lit in low key lighting, there seems to be some bright top lighting which accentuates half of the character's face, showing her beauty, but also creating strong shadows. This technique is called chiaroscuro, when the contrast of light and dark create dramatic shadows. As some of the character's face is clearly lit, the audience can see her facial expression which seems to be startled, which creates enigma codes as to why she is startled.
In the clip, the lighting used is low key lighting which shows that the scene is at night but it also makes the audience anticipate the fight scenes. Their faces are lit by top lighting to make their facial expressions clearly visible and the men's anger is shown. Chiaroscuro is also used to create strong shadows of the men fighting. This is used so the audience are clear that when the woman in shown in the, the men are still fighting.
